Sports are a strong and lively part of life in Collingwood. And a good part of this town’s history is built around its sporting heritage. The first Shipbuilders Hockey Club was formed almost one hundred years ago.
Soccer was one of the town’s first competitive sports, and Collingwood has long been an active harness racing community. As early as 1875, town-folk were playing baseball. The Blue Mountain Heroes was the first team, and the first softball league was formed in 1926.
The legacy of sports in Collingwood is celebrated and preserved in its Sports Hall of Fame. Founded in 1974 and housed in the Eddie Bush arena, the Hall spotlights an impressive list of local citizens and championship teams. The Hall of Fame members are presented with silver medals through the courtesy of the Canadian Mist Distillers. The medals are provided by this company at every induction ceremony. The website for the Hall of Fame is www.colllingwoodsportshalloffame.ca
The meeting Place for this year’s Tour is the Collingwood Library.
